Brief Bio
Amir H. Zekrgoo is an Indologist, a scholar of oriental religions (Buddhism, Hinduism & Islam), an artist and art historian. He has authored many books and over a hundred articles on Islamic art of calligraphy, Manuscript Studies, Indian mythology, Hindu and Buddhist iconography, in English, Persian and Urdu. Among his many publications the following books are of special significance:

He is an associate member of the Iranian Academy of Arts and of the Iranian Academy of Sciences, the Islamic Manuscript Association (TIMA) and honorary member of All India Arts and Crafts Society (IFACS). He received Hirayama Silk Roads Fellowship award from UNESCO (1995), Membership of UNESCO’s 1st Buddhist Route Expedition (1996), McGeorge Fellowship for Study of Persian Manuscripts (University of Melbourne 2013) and Fellowship at the Center for the Study of Manuscript Culture (CSMC) (Hamburg University 2016).
He has been engaged in teaching art, Indian studies, history of art, philosophy of Eastern and Islamic arts, and comparative studies in religious and sacred arts since 1982.
His research interests include symbolism in the traditional Indian and South East Asian art, eclecticism in contemporary mosque architecture in Malaysia, Qajar art, Safavid Illustrated Shahnameh Manuscripts, thematic studies in Rumi’s Mathnawi,
He is presently a professor of Islamic and Oriental Arts at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He is also an Adjunct Professor at the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA) of Malaysia and Visiting Professor at the Faculty of World Studies of the University of Tehran.
